1. How long
does it take you to make one of your Cottages?
Answer:
For a single 'Standard Settlers Cottage' from
beginning to end the answer would be 6 hours. However, not often
do I make a single cottage. I make all the parts for 10, 20 or even
more first. Like all the little chimneys, the chairs, the verandah
posts, the doors, the roofs, the cottage bodies, the bases etc.
Next I will put them all together and now it will probably only
take me a couple of hours per cottage.
2. What sort
of tools do you use to make all those small items?
Answer:
Like the work I do, my selection of tools is also very small. To
cut and shape some of the smallest items I use a razor knife or
hobby knife and I have a small table top band saw which I use for
a lot of my cutting. A face plate sander is my most used tool in
the work shop.
3. Could
you make me a miniature replica of the actual house I live in?
Answer:
Yes is the short answer. The long answer is that I will only make
it using my own stylistic approach and I can only make it if you
let me have a set of photographs showing all the sides of the home
as well as some shots showing characteristics of the location.
Also, please note that with a 'One off' design as this would be,
the price can never be as low as the standard price of my cottages.
4. Are some
of the smaller pieces removable?
Answer:
Yes, some are, but most are glued
to the surface as they would no doubt get lost very soon if not
attached. But again I am happy to supply all the parts loose so
that you can relocate them. You will need to ask me to do this as
you place this special order.
5.
Can I purchase some of the smaller pieces separately?
Answer:
Yes you may ask me to supply any part that make up a cottage or
one of my room's. I can also make any specific items you may dream
up. As long as I can make it from Huon Pine :-))
6. My friend
has one of your creations and I would like one exactly the same.
Is that possible?
Answer:
No. I never make two articles the same. Even if I could, I would
not make it. When you buy one of my craft items you will be the
only person in the world to own one exactly like it. It is simply
not possible to make two exactly the same when you work 'by hand'
and with natural timber. I actually make sure that all items are
just that little bit different and unique. Of course I can make
one similar but never the same.
7.
Do you make items suitable for trophies or corporate gifts?
Answer:
Yes any of my cottages are fine for such purpose and I will package
them to suit the situation.
8.
My friend has a birthday in March this year, can you personalize
a cottage and post it for me.
Answer:
I sure can, I do that all the time. The cottage will be packed and
posted to the recipients address with a greeting card (your words
if required). I will bill you for the Item plus the postage. I can,
on request also add a small personal touch like a little dog for
dog lovers or perhaps a little sign over the doorway like 'Jennie's
Paradise' . You have that choice.
9.
Some dealers on the Internet especially on Ebay have extremely high
postage charges, how do you calculate your postage?
Answer:
I will give you a general idea of the postage cost via e-mail once
I know the destination but you will actually only pay for what it
costs me to send the parcel to you.
Also I do not charge for packaging except for in the case of corporate
gift packages.
10. Do you
charge GST (Australian Goods and Services Tax) ?
Answer:
No, I am not required (yet) to charge GST.
11.
How can I be sure that my good are received in good order and condition?
Answer:
Simple, I will replace any broken or damaged goods I dispatched.
But be assured, all Items are very carefully packed and over all
the years, I have no report of any of my creations arriving broken
or damaged, even after traveling half way around the globe.
12.
Do you sell your cottages in 'kit' form? I would like to put it
together myself.
Answer:
No, not officially. But, if you want it in kit form..... I will
supply it in kit form.
You are the boss an I need to eat ! But please note that it will
not be any cheaper to buy the cottages in kit form as it will in
fact be extra work for me to number all the items and write instructions
for each cottage I sell that way as all my cottages are different
one set of instructions would not cover all).
13.
Would you be able to sell me a small piece of Huon Pine?
Answer:
Yes, any small piece is not a problem, but If you need larger pieces
or large quantities, it would please me to give you the contact
details of the Tasmanian Specialty Timber Company in Queenstown,
Tasmania. (Sorry, no web address)
14.
Why do you have all your cottages displayed on black pages?
Answer:
Huon Pine (that is the timber I use) is a very light in colour,
off white almost and if I display my pictures on a white background
most of the work will look pale and some of the finer details I
would love you to see, would get lost.
But If you have a problems reading this text, you can go to a white
backgrounded duplication of this page from HERE.
15.
Can I come and visit your workshop whilst I am on holidays in Tasmania?
Answer:
Yes of course you are most welcome and I will not charge you a cent.
You might even get a cup of coffee or tea, but please check with
me in advance as I may not be around when you arrive. Also, be warned,
there is not much to see and if you thinking of making a purchase
whilst you are here, you better let me know as most of the stock
I make is sold immediately or is already sold.
